The current conditions in the United States has me a bit concerned, so I decided to consult my trusty Crowley deck to give me some insight on the situation(s).  Especially concerning the upcoming elections and economic crisis we are facing.  I wanted to know what we can expect from all of this.  I pulled three cards, one for past present and future.

The passing influence for this nation is the Emperor, which could easily be said is George W. Bush and the current administration.  The Emperor is the card of leadership and personal power, he is the visionary, the pioneer.  But on the dark side,  he can come to represent tyranny, war, conquest and strife. This is exactly what has been happening for the last eight years.  This country has lacked the leadership necessary to get it through some of the most difficult times in it’s history.  The leaders have been too focused on their own personal gain and built an empire on sand.  Now as the storms have hit, everything is being swept away, making room for changes.  But not without some struggles, don’t forget the Emperor can be tyrant and giving up that power won’t be easy.  Which is what we have with the current elections, the powers that be, of which McCain has been a part, has been employing dirty tactics to win, the Emperor wants victory!  And he’d rather leave it in the hands of one of his own, one who will continue the legacy of dominion.  But there’s no room any more for this old world way of thinking and eventually all empires fall.

In the present position I pulled the Two of Disks- Change.  The Uroboros snake eats it’s own tail and reminds us that change is the only constant and that it is cyclical.  This is actually a very positive card in the sense that it reveals to us, through changes, that which we must know.  I see the next few months as a time in which not only our leadership will change but also the direction in which it is going.  The changes will be for the good of the people and made for the people.  The snakes on this card form a number eight which is the number of change, and within it there are two yin and yang symbols which represent balance.  A sense of balance will be restored when we accept that changes are a natural process, and we must accept that the Emperor no longer holds the same power over us.  This is going to be seen in the upcoming elections.

In the future is the Hermit.  The Hermit seem s like a sad card because he is alone, but this is a self-imposed solitude, or seperation from the outside.  The Hermit is the lantern-bearer, the wise leader who draws upon internal wisdom and life’s experience as invaluable resources for assisting others.  This is the leadership we need now in this country.  We are in a dark period and we are looking to our government to light the way.  But unlike the Emperor who is concerned with power and victory, the Hermit wasnts to go within.  This isn’t a battlefield, and so the sword must be put down and the alntern picked up in order to light the way to a more human place.  It’s time to look within.  This might also be the time to start using the inner resources avaliable rather than relying on the outside markets for sustaining ourselves as a nation.  It might not be the most glamorous position to be in, but once we have accepted that our leadership has failed us, then we might have the courage to demand change, even if it means having to let go of our old ways of life. It might just be time for this nation to stand alone and look around and maybe gain some perspective.

If you’ve been feeling down about the state of things in the world lately, you should be relieved to hear that the Full Moon in Aries(occurring October 14) will bring you a renewed sense of hope.  This is a time to take a leap of faith and let yourself feel the joy of life, without over-analyzing everything too much.  Think of Aries as the child of the zodiac, being the first sign it also is a sign of initiation and setting forth on a journey.  Like the Fool of the tarot, Aries has the promise of a new adventure and it would do you well to think outside of the box and be more enterprising in your day to day life.  Get creative and celebrate the simple of life, don’t get too hung up on the dark side of things, since we need to maintain a positive attitude if we are to get through this big mess, that is the world today.

Speaking of the world, on a broader level, because Aries is ruled by Mars, we might be seeing an increase in violence and accidents affected by fire.  World leaders are feeling the crunch of what they have created in the last ten years and the natural reaction is to unleash the forces of evil on the world.  So, on a smaller, more individual level it is crucial that we recognize the happy moments and not dwell on the bad. It is also a time when people tend to be more argumentative, and explosive since Mars is the planet of war.  But it doesn’t have to be so dire, we need to employ some compassion and try to tap into our innocent, child-like side so that we can navigate through the negativity.  Remember, there is the hope of new things to come, and with the elections so near, this is the time for change and renewed hope.  So get out and vote, and vote with your heart, vote for the person your inner-child would vote for, and celebrate the freedoms, and small pleasures life has to offer.

It certainly feels like the world is in total chaos these days, with the world economy thrown off-kilter, the energy crisis being faced here at home, and wars and conflict breaking out all over, can all this be put in an astrological perspective?  There are many opinions about what brought on all this calamity and how we can solve it, I’ve scoured the web looking for some perspective and mostly hope.  We, the common people, those of us at the bottom have been left hanging after a bailout plan that doesn’t seem to be working and a government that refuses to address the real issues we have to wonder what the hell is going on?  There’s a lot of speculation about whether this marks the begining of the 2012 era when the whole world will experience a shift in consciousness.

Balance! Balance! Balance!  That’s the key word for you Libra.  The next couple of months are going to be a bit chaotic as pressure mounts for you to complete those projects you started earlier this summer.  It’s time to put the finishing touches on that renovation or home-based business and prepare to release your baby into the universe.  With Mercury in retrograde starting the 15th of September all the way throught the 24th of October, you are going to have to make some tough choices about which direction you want those projects to go.  We know how much you hate pressure and you want things to be just perfect, but now is not the time to freak out about it.  If you have to make your people work harder, use those diplomatic skills of yours because tensions are running deep this time of the year.  You don’t want to push your allies away.  Make sure you take some time for deep breathing exercises or meditation because you’ll be needing it.
