If you were born under the zodiac constellation of Cancer, (roughly June 21 - July 22, but varying from year to year) you are known as the "Moon Child".  Loyal and with a tendency to like being in control, you can enhance your luck and wisdom with a little help from a certain kind of good luck charm called Netsukes.

NetsukeNetsukeNetsukes are traditional, hand-carved Japanese figures dating back as far as the 17th Century. They were historically used on kimonos as decorative toggles for attaching pouches to the kimono belt. Ivory was the predominant material of which Netsukes were carved, but some were carved of wood or bone.

The pale color of the carvings is reminiscent of moonlight, and holding a miniature is certainly a great way to feel in control!

Various shapes are available ranging from animals to old men and plenty of others in between. While in general these pale miniature figures are said to bring luck to Cancers,  the variety of carvings let you choose a figurine that resonates with your personality.   Since Cancers invariably enjoy strong family ties, carvings of people may bring you more luck than those of animals.

Netsukes can be found by searching the Internet and local antique stores.  Old ivory carvings may cost a bit; but if you are lucky, you can find some at a reasonable price. The value of an antique Netsuke will more than likely increase over time, so you may find that your lucky charm turns out to be a good investment.
